Cincinnati Reds pitcher Homer Bailey will start the 2017 season on the disabled list following surgery on his elbow Wednesday to remove small bone spurs.
In a statement from the Reds, the team said Bailey had discomfort in his elbow while increasing his throwing workload in prep for spring training. Follow up exams showed the UCL in Bailey’s elbow – which he tore over a year ago and led to him missing last season – and the flexor mass are healthy.
