If the New York Mets can come up with another lower-level minor-league prospect to complete the deal by 4 o’clock this afternoon, the trade deadline, Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce will move to Citi Field.
A deal was in place, Bruce for three players with the centerpiece for the Reds being outielder Brandon Nimmo, a Mets No. 1 draft pick.
Two others players were to be shipped to the Reds, but one has medical issues and the Reds balked. Talks continue with the Reds hoping the Mets can come up with a satisfactory replacement for the player with medical issues.Nimmo, 23, hit .236/.300/.291with one homer so far in 60 big-league plate appearances.
He has hit .336/.409/.517 with 17 doubles, seven triples and seven home runs in 72 games in Triple-A this season. Throughout his minor-league career, he’s shown good gap power and on-base skills. He’s mostly played center field, but can handle either corner and probably would step right into the Reds lineup. He could play right field or the Reds could move Adam Duvall from left to right and insteall Nimmo in left..
Other outfielders traded today limited where Bruce can go. The Dodgers acquire Jason Reddick from Oakland and Texas acquired Carlos Beltran from the New York Yankees.
